Yes, hats off to the modern-day women – women’s day special who are making their mark as soldiers, actors, athletes, chefs, entrepreneurs, etc. But they all have come a long way overcoming the stereotypes and slashing the stigma attached to their gender. They have reached this place with immense struggle right from their own house to the outside world which doesn’t think twice when objectifying them.

So, to be honest, struggle has always been a constant in women’s lives as they have to always find their way out of the trawl of stereotypes. After all the struggle, when a woman reaches the pinnacle of success in her life, everyone applauds her but still, she is followed by the shadow of unreasonable expectations.

So, this women’s day, let’s understand what the modern woman feels and what she wants the society to perceive her as:

1. She is a human being and not a stickler for perfection

True as steel, surely!

Women are expected to be the best in everything. She is expected to be the best daughter, best wife, and the best mother and so on. They are universally assumed to be responsible for her kids’ actions, the way her house is kept and also the reactions and health of the rest of the family members. But the modern woman wants people to see her as a human being and not a perfectionist. She wants people to understand the fact that she can be irresponsible and she can make mistakes and not always the one will take responsibility of the actions of the people around her.

2. She wants society to not limit her capabilities

 

Since childhood women are made to realize that there are certain limitations and restrictions for their gender and they have to follow a set of rules. They grow up with voices around them making it clear that some things are just not made for them. This woman of the modern era doesn’t want society to limit her capabilities and restrict her to live life on her terms.

3. She needs her space

The reality of the situation is that women are never seen as individuals. The society has always attached a woman’s identity with her relations. For instance, her identity is first attached to her parents, then to her husband after marriage and then kids.

What the society fails to understand is  that a woman is a separate human being with her own identity and she wants her space. Sometimes she just wants to spend time with herself, doing things she likes and evolve her personality while learning from her own experiences. The modern woman wants society to see her as an individual than just tagging blindly with her relations.

4. She wants her choices to be respected

 

When a woman says she doesn’t want to be a mother, she is looked down upon by the society and treated as an outsider. She is not considered fit to be a woman if she refuses to give birth. But it is high time that the society respects a woman’s choice, be it related to her career, lifestyle, marriage, motherhood, etc. This modern woman wants her choices to be respected and not forcefully bestowed upon by the society.

5. She thinks sisterhood is real

People give examples of brotherhood as how men can be best friends while most of the women cannot as they are always jealous of each other. But the modern women believes in uplifting each other in the process of achieving success in their respective lives. The present-day woman believes in sisterhood and uplifting the whole community and make their dreams come true. Furthermore, today’s women know how to encourage each other to live their lives to the fullest irrespective of what the society thinks or the stereotypes which obstruct them now and then.
